Probably, many have heard about the use of low-voltage lighting networks, but for most users the meaning of using such networks for the operation of lighting devices is still incomprehensible. It should be noted that for the operation of lighting devices, low voltage has been used for more than 50 years. For the first time, the tendency to use such voltage began to be practiced at industrial enterprises.
Today, thanks to the intensive development of energy-saving lighting products, the use of a low-voltage network in homes has become more rational than ever. After all, most users, due to their inefficiency and high power consumption, actively abandon traditional light sources such as incandescent lamps. Most often, in their place, LED strips are used, as well as low-power LED lamps that do not require high voltage.
It should be noted that the safe low voltage used to operate lighting fixtures has many advantages. First of all, low voltage networks are safe for humans. In addition, they offer a high level of fire safety. This is due to the fact that in the event of a short circuit, the transformer will fail, and the wiring will remain intact. It is for this reason that such networks are often mounted on suspended ceilings.
In addition, the use of a low voltage light source allows significant energy savings (up to 30%). To create such a secure network that will supply lighting devices, you will need a transformer and wiring. It should be noted that if you plan to use LED lamps to illuminate the room, then you need to use not simple electronic transformers, but special stabilizing current transformers.
The connection scheme, as well as the creation of a secure network for lighting systems, is quite simple. To do this, you just need to connect the transformer to the mains and then wire it to the luminaires. To turn on the lighting system, turn on the lighting devices, you can use ordinary switches. Also, if a halogen lamp is used as the light source, polarity is not necessary. However, if the lighting system consists of LED lamps, the polarity of the connection must be observed when installing the switch.
Supply of LED strips
Transformers are able to provide acceptable conditions for the operation of lighting devices such as LED strips. The power of the transformer is calculated taking into account the type and technical characteristics of the diodes that make up the strip. Therefore, the value of the input voltage in this case can be 12, 24 or 36V. In addition, the connection scheme depends on the type of LED strip used. For example, when using monochrome and RGB strips, a different connection scheme is used.
On the transformer, outlets are installed on different sides, which are made in the form of wires of different colors. To create a power circuit, the transformer, firstly, must be connected to a 220V network, and secondly, connected to a 12V strip. It should be noted that when connecting the tape, the polarity must be observed. The red wire (plus) should be connected to a wire of the same color (plus), and the minus (blue or black wires) should be connected to minus. If, after connecting the network, the LED strip did not start working, you need to check the correct polarity of the connection and, if necessary, change it.
Charge a car battery
Thanks to the use of a transformer, you can make a homemade charger for car batteries. It should be noted that the normal voltage level in the battery (provided that the car is not running) is 12.5-15 V. Therefore, a homemade device from a transformer should produce the same voltage level when charging the battery.
To create a homemade battery charger, a transformer with a nominal power of 150 watts is suitable. It should be noted that it is not recommended to use low-power devices in this case, since they will overheat during operation and often fail.
Before proceeding with the assembly of the load, it is necessary to measure the voltage level on all the windings. Then you need to make a diode bridge.
