Adobe Photoshop for only $79.95… Is this the real price?

Everyone loves getting great deals, but if this awesome Photoshop deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Legitimate copies of Photoshop are usually only available through your Creative Cloud subscription. If you find a site that offers a price that goes above and beyond, chances are: not is a legal copy. After all, Photoshop is arguably the most pirated software in the world. With the internet things have become easier and there are now many sites that are willing to take your money for a pirated copy of Photoshop. Giving these sites your credit card number can make the simplest loss of money the least of your problems – exposing yourself to viruses, spyware, identity theft, and more.

How to identify piracy?

Here are some additional tips for detecting piracy directly from Adobe:

If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Check a reputable retail site for the market price of the software. If the MSRP is discounted more than 20% without Adobe discounts, there is a significant risk that the seller:

  • Trying to resell OEM kits without the necessary hardware,
  • Trying to resell products separate from the Adobe Collection or Suite,
  • Attempts to pass an educational version of software as a full retail version,
  • Attempting to sell a counterfeit or illegal product (usually supplied on CD-R) with a hacked or counterfeit serial number,
  • Attempts to provide an update version with a false previous version as a “full” version of the current software, or
  • Attempt to resell a product stolen from a reseller or retailer.

If Photoshop’s prices are above your budget, you may not really need it. Photoshop Elements offers pretty much the same features as Photoshop at a fraction of the price. In fact, Elements is often chosen as the photo editor of K-12 schools.

Student discounts are real

If you have a student or teacher in your family, you may also qualify for a discount on academic versions of Photoshop.

You can also consider Affinity Photo and Luminar. Both apps are Mac-only and are significantly cheaper than Photoshop, but have many of the features available in Photoshop. Luminar can even be used as a plugin for Photoshop.

Also, don’t discount Apple and Google Photos photos. Both offer the ability to do basic editing or apply effects to photos. both are free.

Use your tablet

Another free alternative is to sit in your pocket or on a tablet. Adobe has several apps — Photoshop Fix and Photoshop Mix — that let you do some pretty cool Photoshop work on your Android or iOS device. They even have a feature that lets you send your image to Photoshop if you have a Creative Cloud account. When you get home, the image will open in Photoshop and wait for you to get started. not only that, but the image is added to your Creative Cloud library and available to use in all Creative Cloud apps.
