Customize the background of your presentation with images, themes or templates

You can customize the look of your Google Slides presentation by changing the theme, layout, or background image. The approach you choose will depend on whether you are using a computer or a mobile device.

change theme

In Google Slides, a theme is a set of presets containing colors, fonts, backgrounds, and layouts. You can choose a new theme to change the look of your presentation.

  1. Open the presentation you want to modify.

  2. If you’re using Google Slides on a computer, click slide and then click Change theme.

  3. On a mobile device, press Lake in the top right corner, then click change theme .

  4. Select the theme you want to use from the Themes panel that appears on the left.

  5. Click on different themes to see what they look like. Close the Themes panel after applying the one you want to use.

Import new theme

If you want to apply a theme from another Google Slides presentation or PowerPoint slide show, you can import it into your current presentation.

Importing topics is only available in the desktop version of Google Slides.

  1. Open the presentation you want to modify.

  2. Click slide and then click Change theme.

  3. Click Import theme in the lower-right corner of the theme panel. The Import Theme dialog box opens.

  4. Go to the tab Presentations to import the theme from another Google Slides presentation you’ve been using.

  5. Click To download to use the presentation theme on your computer. Drag the file to the field or click Select file on computer to find the file.

  6. Click Select to apply the theme.

Change formatting

A presentation layout in Google Slides is a way to arrange text and images on a slide. You can change the layout in Google Slides on a computer, Android device, or iOS device.

  1. Open the presentation you want to modify.

  2. If you’re using Google Slides on a computer, click slide and then select Layout.

  3. On a mobile device, press Lake in the top right corner, then click Change formatting .

  4. Click or click on the layout you want to use.

Change background color

You can change the background color of a slide or an entire presentation.

You can only change the background color of a slide or presentation using Google Slides on your computer.

  1. Open the presentation you want to modify.

  2. Click on the slide you want to change.

  3. Click Background or Change the background on the toolbar at the top of the slide. The Background dialog box opens.

  4. Click the drop-down arrow Colour .

  5. Press the button course if you want to apply a gradient.

  6. Click on the color you want to use.

  7. Click Add to topic if you want to apply the color to the entire presentation.

  8. Click Finished to apply the color.

Change background image

You can change the background of a slide or an entire presentation using an image from your computer or Google Drive.

You can only change the background image of a slide or presentation using Google Slides on your computer.

  1. Open the presentation you want to modify.

  2. Select the slide you want to change.

  3. Click Background or Change the background on the toolbar at the top of the slide. The Background dialog box opens.

  4. Press the button Select image Near Image . The Insert Background Image dialog box opens.

  5. Click on the tab To download to find the image on your computer. You can also drag and drop an image into the dialog to upload it.

  6. Click on the tab Google Drive to find an image stored in your Google Drive account.

  7. You can also take a photo, enter the URL of an image, or search the Internet for an image.

  8. Click on the image you want to use and then click Select .

  9. Click Add to topic if you want to apply the color to the entire presentation.

  10. Click Finished to apply the image.
