Create a form to fill out in Word for Windows

You can create a form-fillable document for free in almost any version of Microsoft Office Word. The exceptions are Word Online (Word 365) and mobile apps for iOS and Android. This tutorial is only for Word for Windows.

The form data you create may include the ability to select a date, check a box, choose Yes or No, etc. Before you can customize these “controls,” as they are called, you must Add Developer tab to Microsoft Word . From this tab you can create and modify form data.

Add a Developer tab in Microsoft Word

To add a Developer tab in Word 2016, 2013, 2010:

  1. Click File .

  2. Click parameters: .

  3. Click Customize ribbon .

  4. In the right pane of the Customize Ribbon Component dialog box, select: Main tab .

  5. Check box Developer .

  6. Click Okay .

In all versions of Microsoft Word that support this, you add a Developer tab in the ribbon preferences. Once there, all you need to do is check one box and click . to click Okay to display the Developer tab.

To add a Developer tab in Word 2007:

  1. Press the button Microsoft Office e.

  2. Click knob word options .

  3. Click Popular .

  4. Check box for Show developer tab in Ribbo n.

  5. Click Okay .

Word Online in Office 365 has a File menu but no Options; you must be in the full version of Word to use the Developer tab.

Create a fill-in form in Word using a checkbox

Word has several types of fillable forms. They are called “checks”. The options are in the Controls group on the ribbon. You can add a checkbox, date picker, combo box you create, dropdown lists, and more. These controls are located on the Developer tab.

Create a simple form to fill in Word by checking the box:

  1. Enter text to check the box. Examples are:

    1. “Choose promotional letters.”

    2. “I agree to the terms and conditions in this document.”

    3. “I have completed all the tasks.”

  2. Go to the tab Developer .

  3. Place the cursor in beginning of sentence that you wrote.

  4. Click Control of content control , which adds a checkbox. (It has a blue check mark on it.)

  5. Click somewhere Lake in the document to apply it.

To remove a fillable item, right-click it and select Remove Content Manager. Then use the Delete key on your keyboard to delete what’s left. In some cases it is enough to click on “Delete”.

How to make a form in word with date check

You add a date control on the Developer tab so that users can select a date from the pop-up calendar that appears when they click the control.

To add a fillable date check form:

  1. place you cursor v document where you want to add the date control.

  2. Go to the tab Developer .

  3. Click on the item Date picker content to insert a date check.

  4. Click outside new ones records to apply it.

Create a form in Word for a combo box

If you want users to select something from a list you provide, use a combo box. After creating a field using the options on the Developer tab, open the Properties options to enter the available options. In this example, you will create a party invitation drop-down list with options such as Yes, No, Maybe.

To create a combo box to create a form in Word:

  1. Write a sentence that precedes the options you give. Examples are:

    1. “Are you going to the party?”

    2. “Bring the dish to the party”

  2. Go to the tab Developer .

  3. Venue cursor v document where the options should appear.

  4. Click Combobox content control icon . (It’s usually to the right of the blue flag.)

  5. On the tab Developer In chapter Service Click Properties .

  6. Click To add .

  7. Enter Yes and press Okay .

  8. Click To add .

  9. Enter Not and press Okay .

  10. To add.

  11. Enter Could be and press Okay .

  12. Make any other changes (if desired).

  13. Click Okay .

  14. Click Outside to apply it; Click inside to see how it works.

Create more freeforms in Word

There are other types of form settings you can create in Word. When you experiment with it, you usually work in the following order:

  1. Enter pick up line or paragraph

  2. Venue cursor where you want to add the new control.

  3. Select control element: in the Controls group on the Developer tab (hover over a control to see its name).

  4. If applicable, click on Properties .

  5. To adjust properties The requirement for the selected control.
  6. Click Okay .
