How to create attention-grabbing emails with stationery in Outlook

Stationery is a special way to make your messages stand out and embellish. Use email in Outlook to apply custom fonts and background images for holiday greetings, party invitations, event announcements, or daily correspondence. Outlook has a list of built-in stationery themes that you can customize to suit your needs.

The instructions in this article apply to Outlook for Office 365, Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, and Outlook 2003.

Create a new message with Stationery in Outlook

To start a new email that uses the letterhead theme in Outlook:

  1. Select House

  2. Go to folder panel and select mail † Or click on ctrl+1

  3. Go to the tab House and select New elements Email message using Additional forms † Select in Outlook 2003 Actions New email message with Additional forms

  4. Select the necessary office supplies. A preview of each theme is displayed in the preview panel.

  5. Check the box to make the theme text brighter Bright colors † Uncheck the box Bright colors use dull colors.

    The preview changes to show what the selected theme looks like with and without vibrant colors, active images, and background images.

  6. To use theme elements such as horizontal lines and bullets with a 3D appearance, select the check box Active images † Uncheck the box Active images using flat elements.

  7. Check the box to add a theme background image background image † Uncheck the box background image to use a solid background.

  8. Select Okay

  9. The forms you select will be used in the new message. Compose and send a message.

  10. To quickly find and use this stationery topic in another message, click the House and select New elements Using an email message with † The letterhead template will appear above More forms
