Set up a new contact for everyone you write to on Yahoo Mail

Instead of manually adding Yahoo contacts, you can set up Yahoo Mail to automatically add contacts to your address book when you email someone new. If you decide you don’t want a contact to be added automatically, you can remove it or disable the automatic contact management feature altogether.

The instructions in this article apply to the standard web version of Yahoo Mail.

Set up automatic address book assignment

Follow these steps to have Yahoo Mail create a new address book entry for each person you email:

  1. Choose an icon Contacts in the top right corner of Yahoo Mail.

  2. Hover your mouse over the popup page equipment in the top right corner and select Settings

  3. Select Write an email left.

  4. Check box Automatically add new recipients to Contacts

  5. Select Save

How to Edit or Delete Yahoo Mail Contacts

All automatically assigned Yahoo Mail contacts appear in your contact list, in the same place your contacts are sent when you manually add them. Yahoo Mail doesn’t treat them any differently, so you can manage them the same way.

To edit or delete Yahoo Mail contacts:

  1. Choose an icon Contacts in the top right corner of Yahoo Mail.

  2. Select the contact you want to change.

You can select multiple contacts or even all at once by checking the box at the top of the contacts list.

  3. Select remove in the main menu to delete a contact, or select Edit details to make changes therein.

  4. Select Save to apply any changes to your contacts.
