An alias is another email address that works with your current email account, so you don’t have to worry about losing contacts, saved messages, subscriptions, settings, or other aspects of your Microsoft account.

Create a new Microsoft email address

To change your Microsoft email address, you can create a new account. With a new Microsoft account, you can export email messages, contacts, and other information from your old account and then import the data to use with your new email address.

  1. Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page at login.live.com.

  2. Click Do not have an account? Create one!

  3. Click Use email instead when prompted to enter a phone number.

  4. Click Get a new email address

  5. Enter the email address you want to use and select outlook.com or hotmail.com

  6. Click Further

  7. Enter your password and click Further

  8. Enter the information as prompted to complete the installation.

Add an alias to your Microsoft account

Microsoft also provides a quick and easy way to create an alias for your current account, which is a great way to change your Microsoft email address. You can also use another email address that you use as an alias if you prefer.

  1. Go to the Add Alias ​​page and sign in with an existing Microsoft account if prompted.

  2. Click Create a new email address and add it as an alias if you want a new email address for your alias. Click Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias to use an email address you already have.

  3. Enter the email address you want to use and click Add alias † A message will appear stating that you have associated an alias with your account.

Login with alias

By default, you can log in with any alias you add (you can have up to 10 at a time). You can change the login settings to choose how you want to login.

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft account site.

  2. Click Your information top of the page.

  3. Click Login management

  4. Click Change login settings.

  5. Uncheck the nickname you don’t want to use to log in and click Save

Go to the page to remove an alias Microsoft Login Manager and press remove next to the alias you no longer want to use.

Change your main alias

You can choose the alias to use as your primary email address.

You cannot use the email address associated with a work or school account as a primary alias.

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft account site.

  2. Click Your information top of the page.

  3. Click Login management

  4. Click Set as primary next to the alias you want to use as your primary Microsoft email address.

  5. Click Yes to confirm.

Choose an alias to use on Outlook.com

If you use Outlook.com to read and send email messages, you can select one of the aliases you’ve created or added to appear on the “From” line of the email.

  1. Sign in to Outlook.com.

  2. Click Settings it’s the gear icon in the top right corner.

  3. Click the link View all Outlook settings at the bottom of the settings menu.

  4. Click Synchronize email in the left pane of the settings window.

  5. Select the alias you want to use from the list Set default address

  6. Click Save and close the window.
