Change the subject of the message you received
If there is not enough detailed description in the subject line to quickly determine what it is about, or if the subject field is empty, edit the subject line and body of emails received in Microsoft Outlook.
The instructions in this article apply to Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2010, and Outlook for Office 365.
How to edit received email in Outlook
You can change the subject line of any message you receive in Outlook.
Search for emails with empty subject lines and add a subject to make them easier to find.
Double-click the message you want to edit to open the message in a separate window.
You cannot edit the subject line of a message from the reading pane.
Place the cursor in the subject line and click ctrl † A to select the entire subject line.
Enter the subject line you want to use.
Select Save in the upper left corner of the message box.
Close the message box.
A new subject line appears in the reading pane. The message shows the original topic of the conversation.
You cannot edit the recipient fields (To, Cc, and Bcc) with this method; only the subject line and body text can be edited.
