To date, a jigsaw is one of the most popular tools with which you can perform curved sawing of various materials. At the same time, the effectiveness of this tool directly depends on the saw blade, which periodically fails and needs to be replaced. An experienced person will be able to cope with such a simple operation in seconds, and it will be useful for everyone to read this article in order to settle this difficult problem once and for all.

In the electric jigsaw

This type of sawing tool appeared only 30 years ago. However, during this period, the design of the electric jigsaw has changed significantly. The modernization did not bypass the clamping element in which the saw blade is fixed. Therefore, samples with shoe, screw and quick-release fasteners are now on the market.

shoe clip

A fairly common option, consisting of a block and two screws, with which the file is attached to the shank. Screws have a large reserve of power, which significantly increases the versatility of this type of attachment, which can securely hold saw blades with different shanks. When installing the file in such a clamp, possible distortions should be avoided, as this will not only complicate the work, but also lead to serious damage to the tool.

However, the process of replacing the saw blade itself should not cause serious difficulties. We loosen the fixing screws with a hex key (usually included). We take out the old canvas and insert a new file in its place with the cloves facing forward. Then, alternately (half a turn), we twist the fasteners, simultaneously observing that the consumable is strictly perpendicular to the sole of the jigsaw.

screw clamp

The design of this attachment allows you to attach files with different shank with a single clamping screw, usually located on the side. This is a more convenient option that allows you to quickly and without distortion change the canvas.

Replacement in this case is extremely simple: slightly unscrew the fastener, take out the old one and insert a working canvas; we clamp the new file so that it is at a 90 degree angle to the sole of the tool. In this case, it is not recommended to “tighten” strongly in order to avoid strong vibrations of the saw element during operation, which can significantly reduce the quality of the cut.

Quick clamps

The most convenient option, with which the file changes in just a few seconds. However, this quick replacement comes at the cost of reduced web attachment versatility and quality. Therefore, fasteners of this type are designed only for a certain type of rod and fail much faster.

In this case, the saw blade is replaced as follows:

  • bend the movable lever on the clamp;
  • we get a broken saw;
  • inserts a new canvas into the holder and, releasing the lever, bring it to a click.
Attention!!! There are three types of quick clamps, which differ in the location of the holding lever (front, side and radial).

In a manual jigsaw

The simplest sawing tool of its kind, which should be familiar to all old students who have had a working lesson. However, when replacing the canvas in this case, it is necessary to observe several important rules, which over time can “disappear” from the head:

  • loosen the clamps and take out the broken canvas;
  • we insert and fix the new file with the teeth forwards and downwards in the holder at the level of the handle so that the rod is at a distance of 1 to 2 millimeters from the mounting screw and always from the exterior;
  • we compress the frame of the tool, resting one end on the edge of the workbench and the other on the shoulder, and according to the previous scheme, we clamp the free shank of the file into the second support.
Tips!!! When tightening the screws, you can use pliers. The main thing at the same time, not to break the thread.

If the frame of the manual jigsaw is tubular, then when replacing the saw blade, you can use a special device in the form of two round notches, which are usually made on the edge of the cutting table. The tool frame is compressed and inserted into these grooves, so that when replacing the blade, the hands remain free.

In a puzzle

Changing blades in this advanced tool is the easiest of all saw tool varieties. The new pin blade is installed first in the lower attachment, then in the upper attachment so that the teeth “look” forward and down.

After that, the file is fixed with a clamping lever, usually located at the top, on the opposite side.

To note!!! To replace the blade without pins, special adapters are used, which are first put in place and attached to both ends of the file.

We hope this information will help jigsaw owners use this dependable tool with the most efficient performance.
