When laying cables, in order to maintain their integrity and protect them from all kinds of damage, mechanical stress, various devices are used. As a rule, when laying wires, corrugation is used to provide their protection. It can be metal or PVC. When laying communications, wired channels (boxes) can be used, which provides their reliable protection. Corrugation and cable channel, which is used when laying wires, have their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, when choosing such devices to protect wide area networks, you should first familiarize yourself with their strengths and weaknesses.
Advantages and disadvantages of corrugations
The most popular and frequently used material that allows you to hide communications and protect them from damage is corrugation. It should be noted that it not only protects the cable from mechanical stress, damage, but also prevents it from igniting in the event of a violation of its integrity.
The corrugation is made of metal and PVC. The main advantages of metal products are:
- The service life is about 50 years.
- Ease of installation.
- Reliably protects communications from mechanical shock and rodents.
- Good resistance to aggressive substances.
- It is an additional protection against electric current. Does not need grounding.
- Does not ignite.
- Allows quick replacement of wires if necessary.
The only noticeable downside metallic ripple is its high cost. It should be noted that most often made of metal, when laying communications, PVC corrugation is used. It can be fixed to the ground, in wood or behind a false wall.
Main advantages PVC waves is low, acceptable to most buyers, cost, flexibility and ease of installation. In addition, it belongs to non-combustible materials and automatically extinguishes when ignited.
However, PVC also has some disadvantages. First of all, it should be noted that, in comparison with its metal counterparts, it is not suitable for laying gratings on the street, since plastic does not tolerate exposure to ultraviolet rays and low temperatures. In addition, rodents pose a great danger to the plastic surface of such a product. They are able to gnaw it and damage the laid wire.
Advantages and disadvantages of cable – channel
In the manufacture of cable channels, non-combustible plastic, ceramic and metal are used. The main advantage of such products is that they reliably protect the wires from mechanical damage, the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. In addition, the cabinets ensure increased fire safety of the premises. After all, the ignition of the wires laid in such channels, even if they are damaged, is almost impossible. In addition, connections and wire harnesses can be hidden in the cases, which by their appearance violates the aesthetic appearance of the room.
One of the main advantages of cable channels is that they allow you to quickly and without much effort replace old wires with new ones. In addition, such channels make it possible in the future to modernize an already laid network and, if necessary, to change its configuration.
It should also be noted that there are special boxes that allow you to simultaneously lay communication lines (telephone, Internet) and a power cable. These products are equipped with special partitions that separate the low current wires from the electrical wires.
The main disadvantage of the boxes is their price, as well as their aesthetic appearance. Such devices, which are used to protect communications, are not always able to fit into the design of the room. In addition, their installation requires more additional space and a variety of accessories.
What to choose
Box and corrugation are special devices that can protect the laid wires from mechanical damage and harmful external influences. Each of them has its own specific advantages, as well as some disadvantages that should be taken into account when choosing such a device.
For example, when laying communications on uneven surfaces, it is more expedient to use corrugations. This is due to the fact that, in comparison with the case, it is more flexible, and when installing it, you do not need to use other additional devices and accessories.
However, if it is necessary to have a compact communication installation, it is preferable to use a box. In addition, switches or sockets can be installed on its surface. When using such a device, it should be taken into account that it is suitable only for outdoor installation of communications (the box cannot be placed in the walls) when carrying out work on the laying of indoor networks.
