Using People’s Address Book on Outlook.com

Where can I find the address book feature on Outlook.com? Your contacts are in the People app. Emails are easy to find on Outlook.com and sending a new message to a known contact is just as easy.

The instructions in this article apply to Outlook.com and Outlook Online.

Open your Outlook.com (People) Address Book

You won’t find an address book on Outlook.com. Search for People instead when you want to find your contacts, groups, and lists. You will also use People to edit, add, and delete items. You can open Outlook.com People with your mouse or a keyboard shortcut.

To view your contacts in Outlook.com:

  1. Sign in to the Office.com portal.

  2. Open Launcher for Office Applications

  3. Select People

Use email and people search in Outlook Mail

A quick way to find a contact you’ve emailed or added to your contact list is to use the search box at the top of the Contacts window.

To find a contact, enter a name and Outlook will get matches from your email and your people contacts. Select a contact, then search by folder and date to receive specific emails from that contact.

Shortcuts to open people’s address book

Enable or disable keyboard shortcuts depending on your preferences. Go to Settings select View all Outlook settings then go to section Occur often Special skills

You can activate several shortcuts, including Outlook.com, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and Outlook. If you don’t want to use keyboard shortcuts, select Disable hotkeys

To open People Contacts with Outlook.com keyboard shortcuts enabled, click general practitioner in Outlook.com email. If Gmail labels are enabled, click GC

These shortcuts have been changed from previous versions and may change in the future.

View and sort people’s address book in Outlook.com

View and sort your contacts in different ways:

  • View your contact list † In the folder pane, select the list of contacts you want to view. View all your contacts, your contact lists or the contacts you have organized in folders.

  • Change sort order † At the top of your contact list, select the drop-down arrow and select sort by order. Choose to sort the list by name, company, city or recently added.

  • Select display order † At the top of the contact list, select the drop-down arrow and select the display order by order. Show names by first or last name. This does not change where the contact appears in the list; it is determined by the sort order.

Add and manage contacts

Outlook.com provides tools to manage your address book.

  1. To add a contact, go to the Outlook.com menu and select new contact † Enter your contact details and select To create

  2. To import or export your contact list, go to the menu Check

  3. To add a contact to your favorites list, select the contact and select Add to favorites

Use people to reach your contacts

Once you’ve selected a contact, you’ll find shortcuts to start a new email, view the files you’ve shared with the contact, start a Skype chat, view their LinkedIn profile, and other links that can be adjusted.
