How to use Gmail’s mobile signature

There are several ways in Gmail to add a signature to all your messages. You can assign one signature when sending email from a computer, and an entirely different signature when using the Gmail mobile app, and even a different mobile site plan.

Electronic signatures are a great time saver when you want to contact someone right away, but still want to personalize the message, be it for business or personal reasons.

The processes below are for the Gmail mobile app and website only. There are totally different steps to set up email signature on iPhone and other devices and email clients.

Set up a signature for mobile use in Gmail

Setting up a mobile signature for Gmail is simple, but the steps differ slightly depending on whether you’re using the mobile app or the mobile website.

Using the Gmail mobile app

Setting an email signature from the Gmail app does not apply to the same signature as email sent through the desktop website or email sent through the Gmail mobile website, as described below. Learn how to add a signature to Gmail if you want to sign emails sent through the website.

Follow these steps to add a custom signature just for the Gmail mobile app.

  1. Click the menu icon in the top left corner.

  2. Scroll all the way down and click Settings

  3. At the top, select your email account.

  4. Click Signature settings (iOS) or Signature (Android).

  5. On iOS, enable/disable the signature. Android users can proceed to the next step.

  6. Enter your signature in the text field.

  7. On iOS devices, tap the back arrow to save your changes and return to the previous screen, or select Okay on android.

How it works on a mobile site

If your Gmail account is configured to use the desktop website signature, as described in this link above, the mobile website will use the same signature. However, if this desktop signature is not enabled, the mobile signature will only work if you enable it as described below (it will not work from the mobile website if you enable it via mobile). With the mobile version of Gmail (ie access the Gmail mobile website from a device without using the Gmail app):

  1. Click the menu icon in the top left corner of the screen.

  2. Select the settings/gear icon in the top right corner next to your email address.

  3. switching parameter: Mobile signature to the on/on position.

  4. Enter a signature in the text box.

  5. Click Apply save changes.

  6. Click Menu to return to your email folders.

Important Gmail Email Signature Facts

If you use a regular desktop signature in Gmail, you can clearly see the signature every time you write a message. This makes it easy to edit or even remove the signature on the fly for specific messages. However, this freedom is not available when sending mail via the mobile app or mobile website.

To completely remove the mobile signature, you need to go back to the settings at the top and toggle the switch to Off/Off.

Unlike how a desktop Gmail signature can contain images, hyperlinks, and rich text formatting, a mobile signature only supports plain text.
