Go to the Microsoft download page and choose whether you need the 32-bit or 64-bit version of SQL Server, depending on your operating system, and then choose whether you want the version that includes the SQL Server utilities. If you haven’t already installed the tools on your computer, include them in your download.
The installer will start asking you to confirm the folder where you want to extract the files needed for the installation process. You can accept the default and click Okay † During this process, which can take 5 to 10 minutes, you will see a status window.
The extraction window disappears and nothing happens for a while. Wait patiently. Finally, you will see a message asking if SQL Server 2014 is allowed to make changes to your computer. Answer Yes † You will then see the message “Please wait while SQL Server 2014 Setup is processing the current operation.” Stay patient.

In the Select Features window that appears, you can configure the SQL Server features that will be installed on your system. If you plan to use this database offline for basic database testing, you do not need to install SQL Server replication. In this window, you can also choose not to install any administration tools or the connection SDK if you do not need them on your system. This basic example accepts the default values. Press the button Further Get on.
SQL Server runs a series of checks labeled “Installation Rules” during the installation process and automatically advances to the next screen if there are no errors. You can accept the default settings in the instance configuration screen and click the button again Further †
In the Instance Configuration screen, you can choose whether to create a default instance or a separately named instance of SQL Server 2014 on this computer. If your computer is not running multiple instances of SQL Server, you must accept the default settings.
After verifying that you have enough disk space on your system to complete the installation, the installer opens the Server Configuration window. This screen is used to set up the accounts that will run the SQL Server services.
Otherwise click the button Further to accept the default settings and continue. You can also accept the default settings in the following Database Engine configuration and error reporting screens.
