Keep important Outlook for iOS messages separate from other messages
In Outlook for iOS Inbox, important messages are placed in a special Inbox tab and automatically opened in that tab. Depending on how you use email, Outlook for iOS sorts your email into Targeted Inbox or Other Inbox. For example, email from people you write to often appears in your Targeted Inbox, and newsletters you delete go immediately to Other Inbox.
The instructions in this article apply to Outlook for iOS.
Better automation under your control
Although Outlook recognizes your email habits, some important emails may end up in your Other inbox. When this happens, move the message to your focused inbox to see what you want from Outlook. And if junk emails appear in the Focused folder, move those messages to the Other folder. When you move individual inappropriate emails, Outlook for iOS prompts you to set a rule to do this only for future emails.
Enable or disable a targeted inbox in Outlook for iOS
To choose whether you want Outlook for iOS to guess which emails are most important to you and move those emails to your Targeted Inbox:
-
Go to Institutions (gear icon).
-
Turn on the switch Targeted Inbox if you want to use this function. Turn the toggle switch off Targeted Inbox to use one mailbox.
-
close the screen Institutions †
Move message to target tab
To move an important email that Outlook for iOS has placed in your Other inbox:
-
Open the message you want to mark as important and navigate to the Focused folder
-
Select Menu † † †
-
Select Move to mailbox with focus †
-
If you want future messages from the same sender to be automatically moved to the Focused Inbox, select Always moving †
-
If you just want to move this post (rather than set the rule for the future), select move once †
Move message to another tab
To move an Outlook for iOS email, put it in a “Focused Inbox” folder if you don’t want it to be focused on:
-
Open the email you want to move to another mailbox.
-
Select Menu † † †
-
Select Go to another †
-
To have future messages from the same sender automatically moved to another inbox, select Always moving †
-
If you just want to move this post (rather than set the rule for the future), select move once †
Only current email and future messages will be moved. Other emails from the same sender that are already in the Focused folder will remain there.
