Outlook does not send emails

If Microsoft Outlook is not sending emails, the solution can be as simple as changing a setting. However, it can also be a little more complex. After you’ve gone through the general troubleshooting steps, you may decide that Outlook isn’t sending email in Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013, or 2010, Outlook for Mac 2016, Outlook for Mac 2011, and Outlook Online.

These instructions apply to Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013, or 2010; Outlook for Mac 2016 or Outlook for Mac 2011; and Outlook Online.

Fix Outlook not sending emails in Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013 or 2010

Forward message

Sometimes it is possible to resend the email.

  1. Right click the email stuck in the outbox, point to Movement and select a folder Checkers

  2. Open the message in the Drafts folder and click send

  3. Check whether the message is in the Sent Items folder or still in the Outbox.

Double check the recipient’s email address

A minor typo such as a comma instead of a period can prevent Outlook from sending email.

Check your connection

First make sure you are connected to the internet. Make sure you are online in Outlook after confirming the connection.

  1. Look at the lower right corner of the Outlook window. If it says Disabled, Working Offline, or Attempting to Connect, then you are not connected to your email server.

  2. Open a tab Send/Receive on the tape.

  3. Click Work offline in the settings group. You should now see “Connected to Server” in the lower right corner of the window.

  4. Press the button Send/Receive All Folders in the Send & Receive group.

  5. Check whether the message is in the Sent Items folder or still in the Outbox.

View attachments

Outlook limits the size of files you can send to 20 megabytes (MB) for Internet accounts such as Gmail or Hotmail and 10 MB for Exchange accounts (corporate email accounts). If you get a file size error when you try to send an email, you can increase the size limit for Outlook.

Sync your password

If you’ve recently changed your online email password, you’ll need to change it in Outlook as well, or you won’t be able to send (or receive) emails.

  1. Click File

  2. Click account settings and select account settings in the drop-down list.

  3. Go to the tab E-mail

  4. Select your email account and click Change

  5. Enter the updated password in the field password

  6. Click Further

  7. Click close to

  8. Click Finished

  9. Press the button Send/Receive All Folders in the top left corner of the Outlook window, or click F9 to try to send an email.

Outlook Repair

It is possible that your Outlook application is damaged. You can use Microsoft Office’s built-in repair tool to fix this.

Restore Outlook 2016, 2013 or 2010 to Windows 10.

  1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

  2. Enter Applications and Features in the Windows search box.

  3. Select Applications and Features

  4. Search and click Microsoft Office in the list of installed apps and features.

  5. Click Change.

  6. Click Yes if a user account control window pops up asking “Do you want this app to be able to make changes to your device?”

  7. Select Online repair and press the button To recover

  8. Restart Outlook when the recovery process is complete.

Restore Outlook 2016, 2013 or 2010 to Windows 8.

  1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

  2. right click button Get started

  3. Select Control panel

  4. know for sure Category selected in the View by list.

  5. Click Uninstall a program in the “Programs” section.

  6. Right click Microsoft Office and select Change

  7. Select Online Recovery if available (depending on the type of Microsoft Office installed).

  8. Click To recover

  9. Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears.

  10. Restart Outlook when the recovery process is complete.

  1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

  2. Press the button Get started

  3. Select Control panel

Check your connection

First make sure you are connected to the internet. Make sure you are online in Outlook after confirming the connection.

  1. Go to the Outlook menu.

  2. Make sure Work Offline is selected.

  3. Click “Work Offline” to uncheck the box and work online.

Clear Send Folder

While this may solve the problem, keep in mind that you will have to recreate every email you try to send.

  1. Open folder send

  2. Delete all messages in the folder.

  3. close to Outlook

  4. Restarting Outlook

  5. Try sending an email to see if the issue is resolved.

Rebuild the Outlook database

If you use a Microsoft tool to repair a corrupted database, Outlook may decide not to send emails. Note that if you have a Microsoft Exchange account, rebuilding the database will remove any information that is not synchronized with the server. You may want to back up all Outlook data that is only stored on your computer before rebuilding the database.

  1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

  2. Hold down a key Option click the icon Outlook in the Dock to open the Microsoft Database utility.

  3. Click the ID of the database you want to restore.

  4. Click rebuild

  5. Restart Outlook when the process is complete.

Clear your inbox

When your mailbox is full, you can no longer send or receive messages.

  1. Delete all junk e-mail messages from your inbox.

  2. Right click spam and select empty

Try again tomorrow or increase the sending limit

Outlook.com limits the number of emails you can send per day to deter spammers. If you’ve been sending a lot of emails lately, you can save a draft and send it the next day.

In addition, you can increase the sending limit by updating your security settings.

  1. Go to the Microsoft account security page.

  2. Click Update info

  3. Verify your identity with a phone number or alternate email address.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your security settings.
