Quick extension change does the trick

The PowerPoint show file starts automatically when you open it. There are two ways to print the contents of a PowerPoint presentation, but you must first save it as a PowerPoint presentation.

The instructions in this article apply to PowerPoint 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010; PowerPoint for Mac, PowerPoint Online, and PowerPoint for Office 365.

Change file type in PowerPoint

PowerPoint shows use the .ppsx extension and PowerPoint presentations use the .pptx extension. Before you can print the show file, save the PowerPoint show file as a presentation from within PowerPoint.

The PowerPoint file must be saved on your computer to change the file type. For example, if you received it by email, you will need to download the attachment.

  1. Open PowerPoint.

  2. Go to File and select Open

  3. Select the slideshow (with a .ppsx extension) you want to print to open it.

  4. Select Enable editing if the file is displayed in Protected View.

  5. Go to File

  6. Select Save as † Select in PowerPoint 2019 Keep a copy

  7. Click the drop-down arrow File type and choose PowerPoint presentation (*.pptx)

  8. Select Save

After you save the file as a presentation, you can print your PowerPoint slides in the standard way.

Change file type in Windows

You can also change the PowerPoint file from View to Presentation in Windows. First, you need to configure Windows 10 to display file extensions.

  1. Go to Get started and select conductor † Or click on win key E

  2. Go to Vision select the drop-down arrow parameters: and select Change folder and search options

  3. In the dialog box Folder options select tab Vision

  4. Uncheck the box Hide extensions for known file types to see file extensions.

  5. Select Apply to folders

  6. Select Okay

  7. Navigate to the PowerPoint show folder, but do not open the file.

  8. Right click on the PowerPoint presentation file (.ppsx extension) and select rename

  9. To replace ppsx on the .pptx and press Enter

  10. Select Yes to confirm that you want to change the file type.

After you save the file as a presentation, print the PowerPoint slides in the standard way.
