Quickly linking Google Docs files to Google Calendar events

You work together on Google Docs and come together in Google Calendar. What if you want to meet and bring the document?

You can, of course, put a link in the description field of a Google Calendar event, but to open the document you – and anyone invited – will need to copy and paste the URL, not just click it. It is much more convenient to attach Google Docs with a direct link with the correct name.

To add a Docs spreadsheet, document, or presentation to a Google Calendar event:

  1. In Google Calendar, select the icon Create event which is a red circle with a plus sign, click on a date in the calendar or press the C to add a new event You can also double click on an existing event to edit it.

  2. On the screen that opens for the event in the section Event details Click paper clip icon to open Google Drive.

  3. Scroll through the list of documents until you find the one you need, or use the search box to find it.

  4. Click once on the file to highlight it.

  5. Press the button Select

  6. Make other changes, add members to the section Add guests and press the button Save to return to the calendar view.

  7. Click on the item Event once in the calendar to open it.

  8. Click file name , which you have attached in the window that opens, to run the file in Google Docs. Other meeting participants can do the same.

Grant access or edit rights to members

Open the attachment in Google Docs and click the button Part in the top right corner of the screen. On the screen that opens, select the privileges you want to grant to other readers of the document. You set privileges so that others can only view, comment on, or edit the document.
