To fix the card yourself, roast it in the oven. This article talks about the original way to resuscitate electronics at home, which sometimes saves you financial expenses and the purchase of expensive parts.

Why do the boards need to be warmed up?

Oven roasting solves the problem of motherboards and video cards only if the chip contacts are damaged. For other problems, this repair method is useless.

There are cases when microcracks appear in the solder contacts. They expand over time. Contacts begin to no longer cope with their functions, and the card begins to fail.

If the solder can be heated to 200-230 degrees Celsius and melted, the microcracks can theoretically heal, the contacts are reanimated, and the board will have a second life.

This task is best handled by placing the part in a gas oven and melting the solder.

How to fry planks in the oven

The card recovery operation consists of four steps:

  • disassembly, preparation and wrapping in film;
  • roast in the oven;
  • return to calm;
  • assembly and installation in a regular place of the PC.

First, the card is prepared for frying. This is the most important step. If the part is poorly prepared, it will completely deteriorate. To minimize the risks, follow the sequence of actions:

  1. remove the cooler and all plastic pads, wipe the board with alcohol to remove old thermal paste and thermal pads;
  2. if possible, solder the parts with a liquid base, as they may leak; in extreme cases, they must be wrapped in several layers with foil and wrapped very carefully;
  3. all connectors and capacitors are also removed under the sheet; it is necessary to follow the basic rule – you need to hide everything that can deteriorate;
  4. spread the portion onto the foil spread along the bottom of the glass tray.
The foil should be used with the matte side in and the shiny side up. In this position, it reflects heat more efficiently.

After preliminary preparation, the tray with the board is removed from the oven, the door is closed behind it, and the temperature is gradually increased by 100-120 degrees.

Sharp drops in temperature have a detrimental effect on the board, so rushing is dangerous. Local masters claim that 20-30 minutes is enough to gradually increase the temperature to 200-230 degrees Celsius. Record the duration of each temperature regime, increase the heating in doses of 30-50 degrees at a time every 7-10 minutes.

After reaching the upper temperature threshold, the board is held at the highest temperature for another 5-7 minutes, then the oven is turned off.

You cannot immediately get the part. It is recommended to leave it inside for another 15-25 minutes, then very slowly open the door, gradually increasing the gap.

Metered access of ordinary air to the oven protects the board from temperature drops. Therefore, the door should be opened in stages at 20 minute intervals.

After 60-80 minutes, the piece is finally removed from the kiln and placed on a horizontal surface to cool completely.

The sheet is rolled out, new thermal pads are prepared (you can buy special ones or make them homemade, using, for example, an ordinary bandage and thermal paste).

Local artisans know that weak contacts are heat treated. Therefore, before buying a new video card, try to revive the old one in the oven.
