Send that perfect ounce of happiness as a GIF
There’s no better way to lighten up that business email than with an animated GIF. Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo let you send GIFs via email. Here’s how.
Send a GIF via email using Gmail
Before you get started, you need to find that perfect email GIF. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to start using Gmail.
Although GIFs viewed in the Gmail mobile app are animated, you cannot send GIFs using the mobile app.
There are two ways to insert a GIF into Gmail. You can simply copy and paste the GIF webpage link or upload the GIF from your computer.
To download a GIF file saved on your computer, click the icon Insert photo and then select To download † You can upload your GIF here by pasting it into the body of the email.
Copy and paste the GIF link
First open Gmail and then select To create †
Then find the desired GIF. After that, you need a GIF link to copy to Gmail.
Most links are called GIF links. If you get stuck, look for links with media at the beginning of the URL.
Copy the GIF link.
Go back to your email and select the icon Insert photo in the bottom toolbar. Then select Web address (URL) †
Paste your GIF link into the box. Gmail will show you an animated preview of your image. If everything looks good, choose Insert †
To resize a GIF, select the GIF and use the blue cursor to shrink or enlarge it.
Viola! Your GIF is ready to be sent.
Send a GIF with Outlook
Sending a GIF through Outlook is very similar to sending it through Gmail. To get started, open Outlook on your computer.
With Outlook open, select New email address to start writing.
Select on the top ribbon Pictures and then select Image from file †
Find your GIF then select Insert †
GIFs entered into Outlook on desktop are not animated. GIFs are not yet supported and are displayed as static images.
Your Outlook email is ready to send!
Send a GIF via email using Yahoo Mail
Yahoo makes it incredibly easy to send GIFs with its built-in GIF tool. You can also drag and drop your favorite GIF using their built-in photo capabilities.
Using Yahoo GIF Tool
To find a GIF using the Yahoo tool, open Yahoo mail and select To create to start a new email.
On the bottom toolbar, select the icon gif † Here you will find a collection of popular GIFs.
You can choose one of these popular GIFs or find your own using the search box.
Once you’ve found the perfect GIF, select it to paste it into your email address.
Here it is! Your GIF is ready to be sent.
Using the Drag and Drop Feature in Yahoo
Select To create to start a new email.
Find your GIF on your computer and drag it into the body of the email.
GIF not animated? Make sure it’s a .gif file.
This is it!
