Specify which Outlook character will pack suggestions

Long lines can be difficult to read in emails, so it’s always good email etiquette to break down your message lines into anything between 65 and 70 characters. Here’s how to set the character number at which a line break occurs in Outlook.

The instructions in this article apply to Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2010, and Outlook for Office 365.

How to automatically wrap long lines in Outlook

When you wrap long lines of text, the email client automatically breaks sentences from the current lines to start on a new line. This shortens the length of all outgoing emails and is similar to narrowing the letter space margins.

  1. Open Outlook.

  2. Go to the tab File .

  3. Select parameters: .

  4. In the dialog box Outlook options select tab mail .

  5. Scroll to section Message format .

  6. In a text field Automatically wrap text by character enter a number to indicate where Outlook should wrap text.

  7. Select Okay to apply the changes and close the window.
