Hotmail users have the same options as other Outlook.com users

No email is complete without a signature containing a few lines of contact information, a funny quote, and other information. If you have a Hotmail email account, install your signature on Outlook.com and automatically add it to all emails you write.

The instructions in this article apply to Outlook.com and Outlook Online.

Set up a Hotmail signature in Outlook.com

In early 2016, Microsoft discontinued Windows Live Hotmail and moved Hotmail email accounts to the free Outlook.com web interface. Outlook.com email users with Hotmail addresses can set and format their email signature just like anyone who uses Outlook.com.

To create a signature for your Hotmail email address:

  1. Sign in to Outlook.com.

  2. Go to Settings and choose View all Outlook settings .

  3. In the dialog box Settings select mail .

  4. Select Create and reply .

  5. In a text field Email signature enter your signature.

Use the formatting tools to change the appearance of text, format quotes, add images, and insert hyperlinks.

  6. Check box Automatically include my signature in new posts I create .

  7. If you would like to include your signature in replies and forwards, please check the box Automatically include my signature in messages I forward or reply to .

  8. Select Save when you’re done.

Outlook.com automatically includes your signature when you compose a message. If you don’t want to add your signature to a particular message, remove it the same way you would for plain text.

Tips for an effective Hotmail signature

Every email you send is an opportunity to sell yourself or your business. Here’s how to create a handy Hotmail email signature:

  • Limit your e-signature to five lines of text.

  • Please include your contact details.

  • Use separators to minimize lines. For example Address | City | Telephone.

  • Keep the use of color simple.

  • Add live links to your website or business.

  • Add social icons that link to your social profiles.

  • Format the signature to make it mobile friendly. Add space between icons and choose a font size that is readable on small screens.

Email signatures make it easy for people to reach you and give them a try if they want to learn more about you or your business.
