Find emoji labels on any platform

Pretty much all modern machines support emoji characters, meaning you can type emoji almost anywhere and they will almost certainly be visible. However, it can be a bit tricky to figure out where these emoji shortcuts are hiding, especially if you’re new to using a particular operating system or emoji in general.

Follow the instructions below to learn how to print emoji from your Windows PC, Mac, web browser, iPhone/iPad or Android device.

Typing Emojis on PC

These instructions apply to computers running Windows 10.

  1. Open the file (such as Word, PowerPoint, or Notepad) or web page to which you want to add emoji. Then click to place the cursor in the text box where you want the emoji to appear.

  2. Click Windows button and button period of time (.) simultaneously on the keyboard. A small emoji keyboard will appear in the lower right corner of the screen.

  3. Use your cursor to select an emoji to add to a document file or text field.

    Use the menu below to browse emoji categories or click the icon magnifying glass to search for a keyword.

  4. The emoji is automatically inserted into your document file or text field.

Typing Emoji on Mac

The following instructions are for Mac computers with macOS Sierra 10.12 or later.

  1. Open the file (such as Pages, Keynote, or Notes) or web page to which you want to add emoji. Click to place the cursor in the text box where you want to place the emoji.

  2. Simultaneously press cmd ctrl Room on keyboard. The emoji keyboard will appear where you placed the cursor.

  3. Select an emoji with the cursor to add it to a document file or text box.

    Use the menu at the bottom to quickly browse emoji categories.

  4. The emoji will be inserted automatically.

Typing Emojis Online

If you have an old computer, Chromebook, or Linux, you can copy and paste emoji from the web as an easy alternative solution. You can also do this in a mobile browser.

  1. Go to GetEmoji.com in a web browser.

  2. Scroll through the list of emojis or use the search box at the top to enter a keyword and find it quickly.

  3. Click to the left of the emoji you want to use and highlight it by holding the cursor and dragging to the right. On the PC, click ctrl C or on Mac cmd C to copy it.

    You can also use copy and paste on Android or copy and paste on iPhone.

  4. Navigate to the program, application or webpage where you want to paste the emoji and click/tap the text box where you want the emoji to appear. Select on PC ctrl V or on a Mac select cmd V to paste it.

Typing emojis on an Android device

These instructions apply to devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or higher.

  1. Open the app on your Android device where you want to enter an emoji and tap the text field to activate the keyboard.

  2. Click on icon smiley , which appears next to, above, or below the text field (depending on the version of Android OS you are using). The built-in emoji keyboard appears.

    Do not you see? If you have a Samsung Galaxy device, you may need to enable the Emoji keyboard.

  3. Click on the emoji you want to use.

    Swipe left or right to scroll through the emoji categories or tap the icons in the menu at the bottom.

  4. The emoji will be inserted automatically.

Typing Emojis on iPhone or iPad

These instructions apply to devices with iOS 5 or later.

  1. Open the app on your iPhone or iPad where you want to enter an emoji and tap the text field to activate the keyboard.

  2. Click the emoji icon in the lower-left corner of the keyboard to open the built-in emoji keyboard.

  3. Click on the emoji you want to use.

    Swipe left or right to quickly scroll through emoji categories, or tap the icons in the menu at the bottom.

  4. The emoji will be inserted automatically.

How to Enter Emojis on iPhone or Android Using Third-Party Apps

There are several third-party keyboard emoji apps that you can download for Android and iOS devices. These apps integrate with your device’s existing keyboard and are complemented by new emoji and emoticon features.
