Another reason to use PowerPoint to create a family tree is if you need a family tree in your presentation. Instead of creating a family tree elsewhere and importing it into PowerPoint, you can use the built-in tools to create it without leaving the program.

When you create a family tree chart in PowerPoint, you get the familiar step-by-step slide interface and can insert anything that is supported in PowerPoint, such as images, text, video, audio, charts, etc.

Link to the new branch of the family tree

On the main family tree page, you can navigate to other family members in the family tree, which are on a different slide. Another reason to link to another slide is to show more information about that family member.

You can do this by hyperlinking to a part of the presentation that is not included in the current slide.

PowerPoint 2007 Steps

If you’re using PowerPoint 2007, you can’t add a link directly to a family tree shape, so you’ll need to create a different shape from the one in the chart instead.

  1. Go to Insert figures and select the number that exactly matches the number from the family tree.

  2. Draw a shape on top of the existing one you want to link to.

  3. Right click and select Format the form

  4. On the menu To fill Click without filling

    1. No, if you enable “don’t fill” you can see the text of the original shape, but the shape is only clickable on the outside. 5. Click close to in the formatting options window.

  6. Click on the shape you just created and choose from the menu Insert hyperlink

  7. Click Place in this document
