Make sure you get the emails you want to receive
The best way to make sure the emails you really want to see don’t end up in the spam box is to whitelist the email addresses of people you know.
This varies slightly from one email service to another, so this article will show you how to whitelist email addresses in every major email service.
Gmail Whitelist Procedure
Gmail doesn’t have a quick checkbox to directly add the sender’s email to the actual list of friends you want to keep in the spam box. However, Gmail has some effective ways to whitelist your friends.
Add email addresses to contacts
There are several ways to access your contact list in Gmail. The fastest way is to simply follow the Google Contacts link.
On the Google contacts page, click Contact and fill Create a new contact form . Google sends all incoming emails from your contact list directly to your inbox.
Sometimes a friend may send you an email that ends up in the spam box before you can whitelist their email address. Here’s a quick fix for this.
Just open the spam box by pressing . to click spam on the navigation bar and look up your friend’s email address. At the top of the email you will see a spam label. Click X next to the shortcut to remove it.
Add a non-spam filter
One way to ensure that your friend’s incoming emails never end up in the spam box is to create a filter.
Press gear icon in the top right corner of your inbox and click Settings .
Select Filters and blocked addresses in the navigation links above. Scroll down and click Create a new filter .
V email search form you can specify the entire domain you want to whitelist or a specific email address. Use domains to whitelist someone from a specific company. When you’re done, click Create filter .
Select in the following form Never send it to spam . Finally click Create filter .
When you’re done, you’ll see the new filter in the filter list.
How to Whitelist Yahoo Emails
Yahoo’s email whitelist is very similar to Gmail’s. There are two ways to do this in Yahoo. You can add an email address to your Yahoo contacts or create a filter.
Add Yahoo Contact
In Yahoo Mail, click contact card icon in the top right corner of your inbox. Click new contact on the left navigation bar.
fill in the form Add contact with your friend’s name and email address. Click Save to save the new contact.
Yahoo will no longer put incoming emails from this address in your spam box.
Add Filter to Yahoo Mail
Another way to keep your friends’ incoming messages from spam is to include a flyer that will make sure the email gets to your inbox.
Press gear icon in the top right corner of your inbox and click Lake Settings .
Click Filters in the left navigation menu and select Add new filters .
In the form of Add new filter enter a filter name and specify the domain or email address you want to whitelist. Click Save to save the new filter and click again Save to close the form.
When done, you will see the filter in the filter list in the window Filters .
This default filter moves incoming email from this address directly to your inbox.
How to create an Outlook whitelist
If you are an Outlook Online user, your friends whitelist is similar. You can add contacts as friends from the whitelist or use the safe senders feature.
Add contacts to Outlook.com
Adding contacts is as easy as Gmail or Yahoo. You can access your Outlook Online contacts by clicking apps icon in the top left corner of the window. Then click on application People .
Enter Name , Last name and E-mail address . When you’re done, click the New button to create a new contact.
Any email address listed in your Outlook contacts will not end up in the Spam folder.
Add contact to safe senders
Adding safe senders is a guaranteed way to keep friends out of your spam box.
Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the window. Click the link View all Outlook settings bottom of the list.
In the settings window, click mail on the left navigation bar. Click spam in the navigation bar to its right. In chapter Safe Senders and Domains click on link To add .
In the pop-up window, you can add an email address or an entire domain that you want to add to your safe senders list. When you are done, press the key Input and the item is added to your list. Press the button Save to finish.
All emails from addresses or domains on your safe senders list go straight to your inbox.
Comcast, also known as Xfinity, is one of the most popular ISPs in the country. For this reason, many people have to whitelist their friends who use this service.
If you sign up for this, Xfinity will provide customers with a free email account. There are several ways to whitelist friends using Xfinity.
Add Xfinity Contact
Like the other email providers listed above, an easy way to keep friends out of the spam box is to add them to your contact list.
To add an Xfinity contact, log in to your email account and click The Address Book in the main menu. Then click on the icon Contact . Fill in the form, click on Save and you’re done.
An even faster way to whitelist all your friends’ emails is to import contacts from other accounts.
When you press The Address Book you see a link Import contacts in the left navigation bar. Click To start and go through the wizard to import your existing contacts from other accounts like Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo or even from a text file.
Add Email Filter Whitelist
Like Gmail and Yahoo, the best way to whitelist friends in your Xfinity email account is to create a filter that ensures incoming email gets to your inbox.
Log in to your Xfinity email account, click gear icon in the top right corner and click Settings .
Click Filter Rules In chapter mail on the left navigation bar. Press the button Add new rule .
To do Rule name your friend’s name. Click Add condition and choose Sender/From . in field contains Enter the email address or domain you want to whitelist.
Click the link Add action and press Save . Click Save to save the new rule.
When you’re done, you’ll see a new filter below Email Filtering Rules in XfinityMail Settings.
Selecting Save ensures that incoming emails from that domain or email addresses arrive in your inbox.
Email safe list
In chapter Settings by pressing Advanced settings under “Mail” in the left navigation bar you will see a section called Secure Email List .
When you spin Use a list of safe email addresses , your inbox will only show emails that are on your safe email list. All other incoming emails will be discarded.
This is ideal if you only want to use your Xfinity email account to communicate with very strict people. If you enable this feature, no one will be able to send you emails.
This can be a great way to eliminate all forms of spam, but it also greatly reduces the usefulness of your email account.
Whitelist emails on your own domain
If you have a web hosting account and manage your own domain, web hosts allow you to set up an email account to work with that domain.
You usually manage your email account through your cPanel web hosting control panel. There is also a link here webmail to access incoming email.
Common webmail clients you will find on cPanel are Horde, Roundcube or SquirrelMail. You can set up a whitelist of email addresses in these clients.
But a much easier way to whitelist it is to add a filter directly in cPanel.
Log in to your web hosting account and log in to cPanel. Go to the webmail section of cPanel where you can choose which webmail client to use. Click the link Email filtering .
Press the button Create a new filter .
In the filter form, enter the name of the rule – your friend’s name. In chapter Rules select By a contains from drop-down lists. Fill in the field with the sender’s email address or domain you want to whitelist.
In chapter Actions select Deliver to folder in the drop-down list. Press the button Overview and choose inbox from the list. Click To create to create a new rule.
After you add a new filter, you will see it in the list Current filters On the page Create filter in cPanel.
